Minor Hockey Salutes Our Troops
Goulding Park Hockey Club and the North York Rangers Hockey Club Junior provided an afternoon of history and hockey last month, as they saluted the troops during the North York Rangers Jr team's home opener. The commemorative event, which was sponsored by the Minor Hockey League, was held at the Herbert Carnegie Arena in North York. It brought an assortment of young hockey players together with a variety of long-running military officials. The puck was dropped by two specially selected veterans, Jack MacQuarrie and Richard Ratcliffe. The pre-game ceremonies were provided by the HMCS York Band and the Colour Guard of the Toronto Sea Cadet Alumni Association, as well as the Naval Club of Toronto. The players all signed a support banner which will be sent to troops currently serving overseas in Afghanistan and Libya. SNAP commends both young and veteran hockey players for their display of patriotic support.
